Below are the article covers I created during my time interning at Midstory. Midstory is a “501(c)(3) non-profit thinkhub that progresses the narrative of the Midwest by incubating bright, diverse and interdisciplinary thinkers to exchange ideas and envision the future of our region through multimedia storytelling and solutions-oriented research since its founding in 2018.”

During my summer internship, I created a heap of cover graphics for a wide variety of stories. I worked closely with the writing interns that were producing the stories to bring their ideas for cover and interior graphics to life. I also worked closely with my mentor Ruth Chang—Midstory’s fulltime graphic designer—to create multiple iterations, receive feedback, and then apply that feedback. I worked this process over and over until arriving at final graphics which are then published along with the story. I worked on about two articles graphics a week—sometimes three—while also working throughout my time there to create graphics for a long term, group written project that has yet to be published.

I am so grateful to Midstory for giving me a chance to hone my design, research, and even writing skills as well as the opportunity to work in an environment so conducive to creativity and growth.

Thank you for helping me love my home in the Midwest a great deal more than I ever knew I could before.
