Queer Rights: The Figureheads of the Movement was originally created in 2022 for a project exploring archives—the accumulation of historical records or materials—through the graphic design lens. I chose to research and compile photographs of important queer rights activists who I found to be integral to the movement. In doing so, I originally created an archive which consisted of 12 pages with a very minimal and subdued design.

However, over my time at Bowling Green State University, I have grown as a designer, activist, and researcher. I felt extremely compelled to revisit this project within a new lens and a new approach. As a queer human being myself, I wanted to give these activists the time and attention they deserve and have been working on this as a passion project in my free time. In designing this new version, I chose to approach the design in a way that would result in an extremely strong and professional final product that you could envision seeing on a magazine rack. I spent a large amount of time finding fonts, colors, and sourcing photographs that would do this project justice, to create a piece that can’t be overlooked or ignored.

Below are a few professional mockups to show off a couple of pages of the archive but a PDF will eventually be available for viewing. Physical copies can also be provided on request!
